Chalard's Birthday

My name is Chalard Bunluaphob. I was born and raised in Ban Harn (currently called Dan Khun Thot) – a rural village in Na Khon Rachasima (Korach) Province in northeast Thailand (E-Sarn.) It is a quaint little town that has no electricity or running water. I received a bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.S.M.E.) from Mapua Institute of Technology in the Philippines and a master degree in Mechanical Engineering (M.S.M.E.) from Lamar University in the United States. I worked as a mechanical engineer for two different companies simultaneously: ITT Bell & Gossett for 30 years and Midland Manufacturing for 25 years. I have recently retired from work. With my wife (Montatip Toi Bunluaphob) of thirty two years, we have three daughters, and six months ago our family is blessed with a granddaughter.


สวัสดีครับ เพื่อนพี่น้องและนักบุญทุกท่าน

หลังจากที่ผมได้เกษียณอายุการงานแล้วผมมีความตั้งใจที่ทำอะไรบางอย่างให้ ประเทศชาติ ผมได้พบกับเพื่อนๆหลายคนรวมทั้งอาจารย์สมเกียรติ พงษ์ไพบูลย์ สมาชิกสภาผู้แทนราษฎรด้วย ท่านได้ชักชวนให้ผมไปช่วยพัฒนาโรงเรียนในเขตชนบทของประเทศไทย เพื่อตอบแทนบุญคุณประเทศไทย ร่วมสร้างสรรค์สิ่งที่ดีงามให้เมืองไทยเป็นเมืองที่น่าอยู่

อาจารย์สมเกียรติ พงษ์ไพบูลย์ ได้พาผมไปดูโรงเรียนหลายแห่ง พบว่ามีโรงเรียนที่ยังขาดแคลนหลายด้าน ได้แก่ โรงเรียนบ้านหนองไทรและโรงเรียนบ้านฝายโบสถ์ สังกัดสำนักงานเขตพื้นที่การศึกษานครราชสีมา เขต 5 ผมได้สอบถามผู้บริหารของโรงเรียนทั้งสองแห่ง ท่านบอกว่าเคยของบประมาณในการสร้างอาคารเรียนอนุบาลจากรัฐบาลหลายครั้ง แต่ก็ยังไม่ได้รับจัดสรร สิ่งที่ต้องช่วยเหลือโดยด่วน คือ อาคารเรียนอนุบาลเพื่อใช้สอนเด็กนักเรียนระดับชั้นอนุบาล

ขอเชิญชวนผู้มีจิตศรัทธาทุกท่าน ร่วมเสียสละได้ร่วมบริจาคเงินเพื่อรวบรวมไปซื้อวัสดุและอุปกรณ์ก่อสร้าง อาคารเรียนอนุบาล ให้กับโรงเรียนบ้านหนองไทร และโรงเรียนบ้านฝายโบสถ์

ซึ่งวิธีการก่อสร้างนั้น ผมได้ประสานงานให้ชุมชนในเขตบริการของโรงเรียน ได้ช่วยกันเสียสละแรงงานไปก่อสร้างอาคารเรียนโดยไม่ต้องจ่ายค่าแรงงาน ทั้งนี้เพื่อให้ชุมชนได้เกิดความรัก ความสามัคคีและหวงแหนทรัพย์สมบัติของทางราชการที่ได้ร่วมกันสร้างต่อไป

สำหรับตัวผมเองนั้นก็จะกลับไปเมืองไทยเพื่อที่จะร่วมช่วยก่อสร้างอาคาร โรงเรียนบ้านหนองไทรและโรงเรียนบ้านฝายโบสถ์ ให้สำเสร็จเรียบร้อยในเดือนมกราคมปีหน้า(2010) เเละไม่หักค่าใช้จ่ายทุกชนิด ผมและภรรยาก็ได้ร่วมบริจากเงินในจำนวน $4,000

ขอขอบพระคุณทุกท่านที่เสียสละและร่วมพัฒนาประเทศไทยให้เป็นเมืองน่าดู น่าอยู่

This party was a combined celebration of three different things.

The Thai community has generously donated money to Wat Buddhadhamma. I wanted to organize the party to showcase the new renovations that were made possible by the donations.

I also wanted to show my gratitude for the donations made to the ThaiUSAprojects organization to build school. The album has pictures documenting the progression of the work on the schools that was made possible by the donations. The original plan was to build two new schools. With the overwhelming support of the community and good budget keeping we not only built the new schools but were able to renovate two additional schools.

Lastly I wanted to celebrate my retirement and my birthday with family, friends, and colleagues whom have made all of this possible.

On 10-10-10 along with celebrating my birthday and retirement we were able to raise $3820, which was all donated to Wat Buddhadhamma ongoing renovations and future projects.

Received the Individual Ring of Quality Gold Award from Mr. Travis Engen CEO of ITT Industries at Cipriani Wall Street New York on September 17, 1998. Chalard Bunluaphob was the third person from ITT Bell & Gossett that won this award in the last twenty-one years

Why do I want to build school?

At the time I went to my first school in Ban Harn, education beyond the four year compulsory education was rare for children in small villages. One very basic obstacle for higher education (higher than four years compulsory) is the lack of school. Of the thirty five students completing our four year compulsory education, only four were fortunate enough to continue on. I was one of the four students. Higher education for a student in any small rural town meant that the parents must see the importance of education, are able to find resources to make it possible, and committed to great sacrifice to enable their children to continue onward in their education endeavors. I believe that should the thirty one of my other classmates were granted with the same opportunity that I had, their chances to attain the better livelihood could have been possible since they were just as good and just as smart as the four fortunate ones. This lack of the most fundamental resources such as lack of school in a small town such as Ban Harn is the reason that compels me to envision building a school from which the children will be prepared for their higher education. My involvement with my children’s education in the United States has provided me concrete evidence that the education program such as “Head Start” bestows a firm foundation from which the children will have the better chances of succeed in their higher education.

My Goal

Education is what I believe in, and from which I have been propelled to achieve the desired living status. At this juncture, I want to give back. Building school in the communities of the disadvantages is the endeavor I aim to achieve. I am not alone in this view. Ajarn Somkiat Pongpaiboon shares with me this desire to contribute to educating the Thais who otherwise would be lost to the loss of opportunities to get ahead. AJ Somkiat Pongpaiboon and I have found two locations in need of a school. We plan on constructing two buildings that each consists of two classrooms large enough for Kindergarten, first and second grade, appears to be appropriate for what is needed. We have discussed the principles of building both buildings. We will supply the building materials and I will work with the locals to build the school. The concept of working with the locals will not only bring the community together, the community will have the sense of ownership. This, I believe, is significant in keeping it running successfully. I will work together with the community to complete the low cost good quality school buildings for the children and the community by efficiently budget the funds.
