Khun Busra and Dr.Nakarej Thepjatri
Busra Thepjatri graduated from Thammasat University in Bangkok, Thailand with a Bachelors Degree in Commerce. She came to the United States in 1970 accompanying her husband Dr. Nakares Thepjatri. Busra has been an outstanding civic and community leader. She has dedicated much of her life volunteering for various charitable organizations in both the United States and her native country of Thailand. in 1982, she served as a treasurer of the Thai Association of Greater Chicago. In 1984, she was selected as a Co-Chairperson of Kathina Festival. In 1990, she served as Vice President of the Thai Association of Illinois. That same year, she was founding member of the Thai Illinois Project, whose objective is to help underprivileged children in Thailand.
Since 1992, she has served as Director of the Thai Classical Dance School of the Thai Buddisht Temple, whose goal is to preserve and promote Thai culture in the United States. In 1994, she helped initiate a program for students from the school to return to Thailand. The goal of the program was to educate Thai children about their cultural homeland. This program included a visit with the Prime Minister, as well as having the students perform a Thai cultural program. As Director of the Thai Classical Dance School, she helped organized the teacher exchange program with Chulalongkorn University, in which as instructor from Thailand would spend a year in the United States teaching Thai culture.
In 1994, she was elected Vice President of the Thai Illinois Project. This organization has raised funds for scholarships for Thai students for all levels of education. Fund raising has been accomplished through donations, and by an annual charity concert featuring artists from Thailand. Her commitment to The Thai Illinois Project was shown in 2010 when she was elected President of the organization.
